Prologue
As the sun set, it’s brilliant red rays reaching into the sky and engulfing the surrounding countryside with bright light, everything was silent.
As she prowled towards the barbed fences of the castle, Dayna remembered thinking that it was this kind of silence that meant something was amiss. Storing this fact in her mind, she methodically rifled through memories and found what she was looking for. The fence at first glance appeared to be ordinary barbed wire, but was actually electric. Anyone who touched it would be injected with almost ten thousand volts of raging power. The conclusion would be definite. Certain death.
Carefully, Dayna stretched out her hands and inspected them. She was wearing gloves made from a special material, the name of which she had been told. All she did know, was that they were full proof up to twenty thousand volts. She just hoped that they weren’t faulty. Slowly, she reached out and touched the fence. Although she could hear the crackling of electricity, and felt a slight amount of static, there was no feeling of pain, or even discomfort.
Smiling slightly, she put out her other hand, armed with a rubber handled knife, and cut the wire. The work was slow, as she had to be careful not to expose her skin to the wire. After a few painstaking minutes, the wire was cut, and she was able to crawl forward into the perimeter of the castle grounds.
As she approached the castle itself, eyes flicking from side to side, evaluating the situation, making sure there was no threats, she noticed that there was glass in every single window, and all of it was darkened. She quickly diverted her thoughts. The type of glass was not part of her mission. It was simple enough. Go to the very edge of the castle walls and take a sample of soil from the north and west sides. The reason for this was unknown to her, but what she had deducted, was that this must be very important.
Dayna Rivers had been an agent for five years, and a trainee for twelve with MI5. In all her years, she had never been roped into a simple infiltration and sample, yet this task didn’t seem inferior to her. Every mission had to be performed to the best of an agents ability. It was the way it was.
Slowly, always keeping herself alert, she took out a small sampler bottle and prepared to extract a small amount of dirt from the gaps under the castle wall. However, just before she even had chance to pull out a file, a sharp pain nipped at her neck.
She died instantly, but if the dose had been smaller, she would just have time to feel the needle in her neck, filled with lethal poison, and seen the man hanging from the window above her, a wire around his waist, and a disgusted look on his face.
